Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other side of the world or someone of New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first thing that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff wrote the song with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver heard an early version it was clear that the song could be a hit single. Just a few days after performing to an excited audience in Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
